8 Ways to Make Recruiting a Priority

By May 26, 2021RETS Blog

What happens when your company is swamped with work and you desperately need to hire someone to help with the load but don’t have the time to go through the process? What steps do you take to ensure that hiring doesn’t get put on the back burner? Here are 8 tips that could help you swim, not sink.

Change Your Perception About Hiring

Alter the way you view hiring. Instead of thinking of hiring as a small piece of the puzzle, view it as the foundation of how your company functions. You are laying a foundation for how your company is going to operate with the people you bring on board. Almost like checking the clock for time, scan your surroundings for certain skills and talent.

Assign Specific Roles

Make it a priority to have someone on staff who is committed to hiring as the designated hiring manager. If at least one person is entirely focused on this task, that will establish consistent recruiting processes and expectations for the future.

Schedule Out Your Time

Like any other practice, make sure you are setting dedicated hours per week for recruiting and hiring. Keep in mind that hiring will always be crucial for long-term growth for your company. To say the least, it will be beneficial to solidify some time for it.

Recruit Internally

Companies that recruit internally are mainly looking to fill roles with an insider perspective. This method saves time onboarding as well as encourages loyalty, growth and progress for employees. Internal recruiting could include employee referrals, promotions or temporary positions to permanent positions. The positive to this approach is that it can boost employee morale. However, on the flip side this can cause workplace jealousy. Recruiting externally can help avoid some of the internal politics and bring in new attitudes and experiences.

Seek outside help

There are numerous benefits to partnering with an outside recruiter. Recruiting firms are specialized in recruiting for specific roles within the market. Recruiting firms have access to hundreds of top tier qualified candidates. Recruiters are networking with passive and active candidates daily and can usually fill vacancies rather quickly.

Set Interview Expectations

If you choose to partner up with a recruiting firm, make sure to have a clear and concise plan of action and stick to it. The more time you waste by not being responsive to candidates or the recruiter is more money down the drain.

Avoid Interview Fatigue

Job hunting is like house hunting. It can be discouraging and exhausting but once you find the perfect home, it’s all excitement from there. Keep this in mind when you start administering multiple zoom meetings/ interviews. Zoom fatigue might not be contagious but sure does drain a person. There is no magic number for interview rounds but make sure you use your time wisely.

Keep the process moving.

It is imperative to keep the interview process moving forward in a steady pace. The biggest rule of thumb is to avoid large gaps in between interviews. It should not take a month to schedule the next round. Do not hold out if you found a candidate that you like. Chances are, other companies like them as well. Remember, time kills all deals so don’t waste any of it.

Hopefully these simple tips allow your business to not just swim but do the butterfly through the hiring process.
